What is the Zip order expiry policy for Zip orders?
Uncaptured Zip orders expire after 3 or 9 months, based on the Zip product used during authorisation. This timeframe allows ample time for fund capture and safeguards customers from unfulfilled orders.
How long is the expiry period for different Zip orders?
- Zip Pay orders: 3-month expiry from the date of authorisation.
- Zip Money and Zip Plus orders: 9-month expiry from the date of authorisation.
What should I do if an order is close to expiring?
If an order is nearing its expiry date, we recommend reviewing it as soon as possible to decide whether to capture or cancel the remaining funds. Timely action can prevent any inconvenience caused by automatic cancellation at expiry.
Where do I find the order’s expiry date?
You can check the exact expiry date for any order by opening it in your Zip Merchant Dashboard under the ‘Orders’ tab.
What happens to uncaptured funds when an order expires?
For authorised orders, the entire uncaptured amount gets cancelled upon expiry. The order status then switches to ‘Cancelled.’
For partially captured orders, the uncaptured portion of the order will be cancelled on expiry of the applicable period (3 months for Zip Pay, 9 months for Zip Money and Zip Plus transactions).
For example, if you authorise a $1,000 order with Zip Pay on the 1st January 2024, and capture $900, the remaining $100 will expire 3 months later on the 2nd April 2024 if left uncaptured. This order will then automatically be updated to a completed status.
What happens to captured funds when an order expires?
Captured funds are unaffected by the expiry period. You will not lose any captured funds.
What do I do if my order gets cancelled but I needed to make another capture?
If your order expires and you needed to capture more funds, just authorise a new order from the ‘Create order’ page for the amount. Note, the funds are not guaranteed until the customer confirms this new order.
How will I be notified about orders nearing expiry?
You can opt into expiry email notifications from your Zip Merchant Dashboard in the ‘Notifications’ page.
Can the expiry period be extended for specific orders?
Currently, the expiry periods for Zip orders are fixed (3 months for Zip Pay, 9 months for Zip Money and Zip Plus) and cannot be extended. We advise managing your orders within these timeframes to ensure smooth processing. If this expiry time frame does not suit the lead times for your business please contact our Merchant Experience Team.
