Why do you need me to complete this check?
To provide you with a Zip account, we need to prove that you are a real person and verify your identity. This helps to protect your personal information and ensures your account is secure.
Zip must also comply with certain laws and regulations, such as Anti-Money Laundering, that helps to keep the community safe. To do this we use biometric verification which is one of the most secure methods of identification. This is because biometrics are unique to you and hard to replicate, forge or steal.
To do this, Zip partners with OCR Labs, a Biometric Verification tool. OCR Labs are a world leader in digital identification and are committed to providing a platform that meets our high privacy, security and integrity standards.
We understand that biometric data is highly sensitive, so this data is encrypted and stored on secure servers that can only be accessed by highly trained members of our Security team. It is stored in accordance with regulatory record-keeping requirements.
We do however mask the data after a certain period to maintain strict security controls and to protect identity information from misuse.
How does it work?
We use facial recognition technology to match your face to the photo on your Government-issued photo ID. You’ll need to complete the verification on your mobile phone, where you’ll be asked to:
- Grant access to your camera
- Take a photo of your Government-issued photo ID
- Confirm the details captured from the document are correct
- Follow the prompts to take a video of your face
This information is then used to verify that your face matches the image from your ID.
Is there another option?
If you are applying for a ‘Zip Pay’ account, you can use your verified PayPal or bank account as an alternative option. However, if we have specifically asked you to provide biometric verification, you will have to complete this step in order to continue your application.
Please see our Privacy Policy for further details on how we collect, hold, use, and disclose personal information.
